U9 Tommy Martin Knockout Runners Up
5 years service award winners
2018 was another exciting and successful year for the club. The club fielded 15 Junior teams and approximately 200 players. I would like to thank all coaches, managers, water runners, trainers and parents who volunteered their time and efforts to ensure our children could get in the field each week.
On the field was very rewarding and fun for all teams. The highlights were our U14’s and U16’s League Tag teams finishing as Minor Premiers. Unfortunately, both teams lost the grand finals to teams who simply executed better on the day. Five of our U16 players were selected in the Illawarra League Tag Development team, recognition of their talent and ability. Well done to the coaching staff and teams. Our U12’s made the semi-finals for the 3rd year in a row – well done boys.
We had two mod teams in Division 1 this year, u10’s and u11’s as well as our U16 League Tag. Both mod teams will be better for the run, will return to Division 1 and we look forward to having our current u9’s enter 2019 in Division 1 as well.
Our League Start and Mini teams all had good numbers and participation. The future looks bright as these teams move into Mod footy over the next 2-3 years. Our U9 Green Team had another very successful year and congratulations must go to the players and coaching team for their development. The team lost the final at the Tommy Martin knockout against Gerringong but won plenty of fans after being one of the first Illawarra teams to beat Bankstown Sports in the qualifying final. Well done boys!
Our U7 headed to Canterbury Bankstown to play in the end of season Gala Day and ended up winning the Josh Reynolds Shield – a great result in a very big competition with teams from all over Sydney metro. Well done boys!
We fielded a stand-alone U16 side after having a merged side last year. The boys recruited their mates and had a pretty good year and were a credit to their club for their loyalty and commitment.
Our club awarded a life membership to Darren Hodgson. Darren is a current coach, committee member, sponsor and tireless volunteer of our club. He does so much for the club and kids behind the scenes. Darren is a great mentor for other coaches and provides plenty off-field support to the committee and myself. Thanks Darren.
Off the field our club raised money to fund new lights that will allow for greater access, safety and security for all our players and volunteers during the dark winter months. Thanks to all that have assisted throughout this long journey. Having the upgraded lighting should be more opportunities to host special events and a much more even spread over our playing/training fields. We’d also like to acknowledge, Wollongong Council, BULLI FC and Balls Paddock Childcare Centre who have supported the club and provided expertise with the finalisation of the upgrade.
To our sponsors, your ongoing support of our club is very much valued and appreciated. Thank you to Lakeland Hire Group who is our Major 2018 Club Sponsor and well as a thank you to Olga Lihou of Somerset Risk Management who donates two player scholarships every year – this year being awarded to Adam Monteleone and Fletcher Sutton as well as being a sponsor partner of our club. Thanks Olga! We greatly appreciate the ongoing support from Woonona Bulli RSL and the Sports Council for contributing to our club; granting much needed funds.
To our other long-term sponsors - Kelly+Partners, Lifestile Pavers, Rod Price Mechanical, Sareven Bakehouse, Stokes Lane Café & Molenaar and McNeice thanks for your ongoing support. To our more recent and much valued new sponsors - CDI Plumbing, iroof Construction, Spot On Hose and Fittings your support of the Woonona Bulli Bushrangers makes all this possible. Thanks!
To the Illawarra Junior League Committee and Management, congratulations and thank you for all your support. To the Referees, without you the children wouldn’t be able to play the greatest game of all. Thank you all.
To our hard working committee, congratulations! Without your dedication and commitment to the club, we wouldn’t have what is the best little club in the north. There certainly are more exciting times ahead for us.
